Optically thick super-Eddington winds in Galactic superluminal sources

چکیده

A model of major ejection events in Galactic superluminal sources GRO J 1655-40 and GRS 1915-105 is proposed, in which episodes of e−e+ pair creation give rise to the formation of optically thick outflows accelerating protons to the limiting Lorentz factor of order 2-3. Probable source of e−e+ pairs is pion production in nucleon collisions. Subsequent deceleration of ejecta and formation of radio jets is analyzed in detail within a shock deceleration model. The detailed data available for GRO J 1655-40 are shown to be in good agreement with proposed scenario.

Clumpy winds and the obscuration of Active Galactic Nuclei

The role of star-formation driven outflows in the obscuration of the central source in the Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) is discussed. The outflow from a sub-parsec scale accretion disc is numerically modelled for parameters appropriate to the Galactic Centre. The resulting obscuration pattern is very patchy, with some lines of sight becoming optically thick to Thomson scattering. A fixed observ...

Super Eddington Atmospheres and their Winds

We present a model for the steady state winds of super-Eddington systems. These radiatively driven winds are expected to be optically thick and clumpy as they arise from a porous atmosphere. The model is then used to derive the mass loss of bright classical novae. The long duration super-Eddington outflows that are clearly observed in at least two cases (Nova LMC 1988 #1 & Nova FH Ser) are natu...

Precise mechanisms by which Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) receive their gaseous fuel is still a mystery. Here I draw attention to the extra ordinary star formation event that took place in the central ∼ 0.5 parsec of our Galaxy. The most reliable explanation of the event seems to be that two somewhat massive nearly co-eval gaseous disks failed to accrete on Sgr A * , the super-massive black hole...

V4641 Sgr: a candidate precessing microblazar

The X-ray spectrum of the Galactic X-ray binary V4641 Sgr in outburst has been found to exhibit a remarkably broad emission feature above 4 keV, with inferred equivalent widths up to 2 keV. Such a feature was first detected during the X-ray flaring activity associated with the giant outburst that the source experienced in 1999 September. The extraordinarily large equivalent width line was then ...
